Microsoft Windows Vista & Windows 7 comes with some great new security and also some functionality features, as well as cool eye candy's, such as Aero transparency, Flip 3D and some other graphical tricks. But all this programs need some performance boost  and the main problem is that most of us is not having that much performance for our computers.
If you find your Vista's performance lagging, you can make it run better and more faster. Here is some tips you can take.

1: Add more RAM:

There’s no other option as if Vista is a RAM-hungry operating system. Whereas XP will runs great on 512MB RAM.You really need a RAM minimum of 1GB for runing Vista acceptably. 2GB will be even more better and if you turned on all the graphical features and having a lot of programs open always, especially those which use a lot of memory.

2: Use Ready-boost:

If you can’t add physical RAM, Maybe its because of U having a laptop that already has the maximum amount of RAM installed. In that case, Vista and also the Windows 7 also provides you with a way to make fool your computer by thinking that the computer has more RAM than it does. For that U can use a flash memory card or a pen drive to boost the system memory; The OS can access the flash memory more faster than data stored on the hard disk.
For the best result use a high performance flash card or a pen drive for ReadyBoost. When you plug in it,
Windows will ask if you want to use it to speed up system performance,
and then you can adjust how much of the card’s/drive’s space you want to use for this purpose. The rest of the space can be used for storing data.
3.Free up your disk space:
The Disk Cleanup tool helps U to free up your hard disk space to improve the performance of your computer.U can  access this from Start menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. Also U can access this by simply right clicking on the drive which you want to cleanup. The tool helps you to identify the files that you can safely delete and also enables you to choose whether you want to delete some of the files or all of the identified files.

4.Speed up the access to data

Defragmenting the disk means rearranges your data on your computer so that all the parts of a file are placed together. This will allows your computer to access those files more quickly.U can access this by simply right clicking on the drive which you want to defrag and then select tools. This process will take some time and also will lead to slow down your computer, so you may schedule this to run at a time when you are not using the computer.

5. Good video card

If you have enough RAM, the another hardware that lead to slow down your machine is the video card. You should need a high performance card to run Aero at all.You can find out your video card's performance by checking your Windows Experience Index score from the Performance Information and Tools at Control Panel.
The on board video in most systems have low end performance. Also check whether card supports Direct X 10.

6. Eliminate extra startup programs
You may find that a lot of programs is getting loaded automatically when you boot your Windows. Some of these are important, such as antivirus like programs, but many these you may probably don’t even use it or use only occasionally but don’t want to run all the time. Yet they are loading at the startup consuming your system resources and thus lead to slowing down your computer as they are running in the background.
Some of the programs can be prevented from starting automatically by deleting them from the Startup folder. Others programs are configured in the registry for running at startup. Many can be controlled using the Windows Defender Software Explorer, which you can managed from the Manage Startup Programs link at the left pane of the Performance Information And Tools applet.
7. Turn off visual enhancements
There are a lot of visual enhancements programs that make your computer look like as it is. However, all this programs decrease the performance and if performance is your priority, the OS will run faster without them.
You can access the Performance Options dialog box through the Adjust Visual Effects link in the left pane of the Performance Information And Tools applet. On the Visual Effects tab, you can customize these settings individually, turning off those effect which you don’t want, to help speed performance. Or you will get the maximum performance by disabling all of the visual effects by clicking the Adjust For Best Performance option.
9. Turn off the sidebar
The sidebar is one of the best feature of Vista and 7, but it also leads to decrease the performance of the computer. For that first, right-click it and then select Properties. There you can  turn off the sidebar
10. Turn off Aero
This is a last option for making your windows a better performing one. Aero is program that makes your windows look like as it is. But if you don’t care for all the visual items, you can definitely speed things up by just going back to the ordinary look.
To do so, right-click the desktop > Personalize > Windows Color And Appearance >Open Classic Appearance Properties.
